DUHCH
University Certificate
in Hospital Hygiene
PRESENTATION
The DU in Hospital Hygiene and Care-Related Infectious Risk Management is a professional, degree-granting DU organised as part of continuing education.
It is in line with the commitments proposed by the WHO/World Alliance for Patient Safety. It trains professionals who will be called upon to exercise responsibilities in the field of managing the infectious risk associated with healthcare.
According to the WHO, more than 1.4 million people in the world suffer each year from care-induced infectious complications; in Africa, few data are available, the prevalence of nosocomial infections is estimated at between 10 and 65%. They are the 3rd cause of maternal mortality, the 2nd cause of early neonatal mortality and the 1st cause of post-operative morbidity.
It is a relevant programme, designed specifically to meet the challenge of reducing healthcare-associated infections in health facilities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in response to demand from other French-speaking countries in Africa.
This university certificate is organised by the Institut Supérieur en Sciences Infirmiers, in collaboration with European experts and the Ministries of Health and Higher Education of the DRC.
Targets
Doctors, Pharmacists, Surgeons, Dentists, Midwives, Nurses and laboratory technicians.
Functions of preference
Responding to new requirements
Hospital hygiene and the management of the infectious risk linked to care is an essential component of improving the quality and safety of care.
It necessarily requires institutionalisation and formal regulation, but will not be possible without general capacity building, harmonisation and rationalisation of practices, and therefore a human resource development plan.
In order to meet the requirements of health system users and the growing demand for expertise in the field of quality of care, health care institutions must have medical and administrative staff with the necessary knowledge and the tools for good management of infectious risk.
Training modules
The modules revolve around three main axes:
