Bachelor's degree in Midwifery
The Bachelor of Midwifery Programme is a specialised undergraduate degree programme (Bachelor's Degree) that retrains/trains nurse midwives and perinatal nurses (RN-PNs) to become midwives for public and private practice.
The training, which is carried out in accordance with ISSI's mission, is a cutting-edge programme that aims to contribute effectively and sustainably to the improvement of the health and well-being of the Congolese population in terms of reproductive health.
Who is this programme for?
Eligible candidates for training are represented by:
Eligible candidates for the training programme will be invited to: take a pre-test to assess the level of their own knowledge; prepare for a basic knowledge review programme; and, take a post-test to retain participants in the training/retraining programme.
How is the program organised?
The training is spread over a period of two years or the equivalent of four (4) semesters of five (5) months each. It includes academic, laboratory and clinical training.
The Congolese midwife graduating from the ISSI programme is a professional qualified specifically for reproductive and perinatal health, which she recognises as a human rights right.
Thus, it adopts a humanised approach based on the "health model" and the reference framework emanating from the analysis of midwifery (Lancet 2014) according to which the person/group using its services is at the centre of its attention and is worthy of respect.
It promotes the health of women, couples, newborns/children and families, taking into account the social, emotional, cultural and physical aspects of their experience. It accompanies the woman/family and the community in the events of reproductive and perinatal life in a continuous, comprehensive manner and with a view to promoting and maintaining health.
Competencies form the backbone of the midwifery baccalaureate programme. Competence is defined as: "Complex action skills based on the mobilisation and effective combination of a variety of internal and external resources within a family of situations".

THE CAPACITIES corresponding to the integration of resources (knowledge, know-how and interpersonal skills) to be mobilised and combined in the exercise of each competence. These are, in a way, elements of competence that contribute to defining competence. Indicators are specified for each capacity. They are observable and provide information on the progress or achievement of learning. Learning and teaching develop on the basis of families of situations.
