On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, the students of the 2nd year license of ISSI accompanied by their teachers, made a visit to the CNTS of Bandal (Kinshasa) as part of their course on transfusion.
The visit started at 10:30 am by Dr. Paul Kabamba. He started by telling the history of the Center and then they moved to the visit where they could see the reception, where donors are registered, and the reception for people who come to buy blood. They visited the different rooms and machines to perform all the tests before validating the bags for transfusion.
In the storage area for the tested and validated blood bags, some of the refrigerators are powered by solar panels to make up for the lack of electricity. What was interesting," says student Anne Noelle, "was the opportunity to get to know structures that are almost unique in the Congo and to see in practice what we study in theory. It was the first time we had gone outside ISSI for an experience of this kind. I did not donate blood because I was a little afraid of the needle, but I will do it soon. The visit ended at 12:30 p.m., after six students donated blood.
